Illustration Description
I love trees. I illustrated this horse chestnut tree using micron graphic drawing pens and used opaque washes of watercolour to add a hint of colour. The whole drawing took me 2 hours. The tree is of a mature horse chestnut tree which can grow to a height of around 40m and can live for up to 300 years. The bark is smooth and pinky-grey when young, which darkens and develops scaly plates with age. The fruit (or conker) develops once the flower has been pollinated by insects, where each flower develops into this glossy red-brown conker inside a spiky green husk, which fall in autumn time.
