Illustrations for Publishing

I have been supplying publishers with illustrations for the past ten years producing a steady number of anatomy, biology and science books. These have included producing line work illustrations for a series for student learning anatomy books such as ‘The Biology Students Self Test Colouring Book’. The illustrations needed to be line work so that students could use colouring in as a way of learning the anatomy.

Along side these I worked on ‘The Anatomy of Stretching Manual’ and ‘The Anatomy of Yoga Manual’ which included highly detailed muscle anatomy of figures in their various positions. I was also the artist for ‘Pocket Anatomy and Physiology‘ as well as ‘Pocket Anatomy of the Moving Body‘ working with authors Professor Ken Aswell and Professor John Brewer respectively.

My most recent commission is to provide illustrations of sports injuries where I will be producing 54 full colour medical illustrations of various sporting injuries working with Quid publishers. This project has started and is due to be completed by this December 2021!

I have also had the great joy and privilege to illustrate the journal covers for the British Dental Journal (BDJ) on two occasions! The first was in 2012 and I was commissioned to illustrate 12 journal covers in watercolour, the theme was the cranial nerves. The second more recent project in 2020 was to illustrate 12 journal covers using coloured pencil, this time the theme was dentistry. The commission came about because they wanted traditional medical art with traditional materials, as not everyone wants the digital style.
