Muscle Anatomy of the Horse

Illustration Description

This is a painting I created using my own horse as inspiration. I drew his outline so it was in a dynamic movement in order to be able to add the muscles visible on the inside legs as well as the outside. Next I studied the muscle anatomy. I referred to many books including drawings by the very famous horse artist George Stubbs. I also referred to a wonderful book by a Hungarian artist called Andras Szunyoghy, who illustrated a book called Anatomy Drawing School (human-animal-comparitive anatomy). It took me a long time to draw the muscles correctly within the outline of the horse I had already completed. This was done straight onto the watercolour paper at A1 size. I completed the painting using watercolour, I scanned the illustration and saved as a TIF file. I placed within Adobe Illustrator so I could add the labels.
